What a beautiful hut. Perfect for people coming off of the Appalachian trail, hikers from any of the offered trails, families, anyone really. Make the trek up here and you’re rewarded with Lonesome Lake, Mountain views, bathrooms, bunkhouses, a community room with a wonderful kitchen. Free water to fill up water bottles, other beverages and snacks for a small price.
We stopped by while hiking the lonesome lake trail from Lafayette Place. It had been raining all morning, so this was the perfect stop for a quick snack and hot soup. It is super cozy, would recommend taking a break here. It is conveniently located for other trails as well.
This was my first hike in the snow and it was a little challenging but totally doable with micro spikes and hiking poles are helpful. The hut host was super friendly and helpful. Bathrooms and sleeping cabins were clean. They have a little wood burner that you can get warm at and a stove to cook on. They have lots of spices and fridge space. Its currently one of the only three huts open for winter. Make sure to bring a 0 degree sleeping bag! Its so beautiful
Amazing experience up here! Beautiful views and great people. Maria, Justin, Natan, Callie, and Josh were great hosts and made the time up at the huts special ⭐ Well worth the hike and will be making a trip up again soon.
Stayed here in February - it was great! I was surprised how many people were staying there which made the common area a bit cramped, but the kitchen had everything you needed, the fire in the afternoon/night was hot and there was always hot water to keep you warm. The caretaker Eugene was nice and helpful as well. Short trek in made it a great place to do the Kinsman peaks or cannon.
Great place. Been there many times. So inviting. The croo is always ready to answer your questions and address your concerns whether you’re a guest or passing through. The views are insane. The Echo is deep. If you tell u hear your voice amplified a 100 times. The way up there is super fun and there are so many options. Open year round. Lodgings year round. Not to pricey, but in the summer it can be over $150 a night. Well worth it.
Great first hut experience for our almost 6 year old daughter. She loved swimming in the lake, the delicious food, the friendly staff, and staying in a bunk bed overnight. The hike up there is short, but very rocky; glad we all had proper hiking shoes.
Look, it’s a hut in the mountains. You’ve got to walk up a rather steep hill to get to it. (You know, that’s the mountains part) The place is setting appropriate. And if you have appropriate appreciation for the setting, you will definitely appreciate the Lonesome Lake Hut. I go in winter. It’s a different experience than the summer time. Totally magical.
